Microsoft welcomes Yahoo! executive
An 18-wheeler with “Microsoft” in huge letters on the sides and back was parked in front of the Thomas & King Leadership and Conference Center at Georgetown College when Libby Sartain arrived Tuesday.
“I thought they were after me,” she quipped.
Sartain is executive vice president and chief people officer at Yahoo! Inc., which is battling an unwelcome $44.6 billion takeover offer from Microsoft.
The truck contained Microsoft product displays to be seen by more than 200 participants at the “3rd Annual Bluegrass Works Summit: Shift Happens. Drive It.”
The exhibits had been scheduled long before Sartain agreed to give the keynote address, said Pamela Trautner, who organized the program.
“Shift happens,” she noted.
Later, before she introduced Sartain as the keynote speaker, Trautner said some participants had had trouble finding the conference center.
MapQuest doesn’t recognize University Drive where the center is located, she said. “We should have used Yahoo! Maps.”
