Lexington is No. 1 in horse friendliness

Hey, Ocala, how do you like these apples?

Western Horseman magazine ranks Lexington as the No. 1 most Historically Horse-Friendly city in the country.

It begins the article in its April issue by saying Lexington is “widely recognized as the Horse Capital of the World.”

So much for your claim to that title, Ocala.

The magazine, which says it has 193,000 monthly subscribers, also says Lexington was “a shoe-in to be the first North American host” of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in 2010.

“Kentucky is arguably the most horse-friendly state in the union, as the $4 billion equine industry is its number-one ‘cash crop,’” American Horseman adds.

“The state government protects this claim to fame by bankrolling a statewide breeder’s incentive fund and purchasing development rights to protect (Lexington) area horse farms.”

Did I mention that Ocala isn’t even on the magazine’s list of horse-friendly cities?

Oh, well.
