Happy motoring along the “solid yellow line”

Maybe it’s a good thing gasoline prices are keeping some drivers off the road.

Kentucky ranked 29th in the 2008 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test, based on the average score — 78.2 — of the Kentucky drivers who took the test.

The state ranked 29th last year, too.

Kansas was No. 1 in 2008, with an average of 84. New Jersey was last, with 69.9.

Be careful in Jersey!

The test was made up of 20 questions from driver’s license exams. The lowest passing grade was 70 and 15 percent of the Kentucky drivers flunked.

Be careful in Kentucky!

The results show that 16.4 percent — equal to 33 million Americans — could not pass a written drivers test today.

Be careful in America!

Want to see how you stack up? You can take the test at www.gmacinsurance.com.

Meanwhile, we can take comfort that 98 percent of the drivers knew “what to do when an emergency vehicle with flashing lights approaches, what to do when hydroplaning and the meaning of a solid yellow line.”
