Bourbon comes in bottles and in a magazine
Bourbon drinkers like good books and Bob Kenney Eidson is hoping to give them one — or at least, the next best thing.
Eidson, 27, and two partners — Justin Thompson, 28, and Brad Kerrick, 24 — launched The Bourbon Review on Friday.
It is, Eidson says, “the first magazine about bourbon.”
The 84-page, full color first edition is available free at Liquor Barn and at various locations along Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail.
Eidson describes it as “a magazine for bourbon drinkers. We cover the people, the art and the science of bourbon. At the end of the day, it’s going to be a resource guide for the Bourbon Trail.”
The first edition takes a look at Gainesway Farm, businessman Larry Redmon, master distiller Fred Noe and the seven distilleries that now make up the Bourbon Trail.
The next edition, due out about Sept. 10, will include the hobby of bourbon bottle collecting.
The three co-founders are from Lexington and attended the University of Kentucky together.
They have varied backgrounds: Eidson is an MBA student at UCLA who has worked for California’s Destination Wine Country; Thompson has been in banking and property management; and Kerrick has been a chef and is now head bartender at the Metropol restaurant.
“We did some market research and said, ‘This is good to go,’” Eidson said.
The Web site, which is under development, is www.thebourbonreview.com.

What a great start for this wonderful magazine. I predict great success, but then why wouldn’t I? I’m an investor and Bob’s dad. You guys are great! Keep up the good work!…Charlie Kennet
