Don't be a Volvo hater! I drove one for 12 years, and accident avoidance was what most impressed me about it. On two occasions, the tight handling and turbo acceleration on my '89 760 got me out of the way of terrible accidents, including an incident in 1997 when a car ran a red light on Tates Creek Road one night. I punched the accelerator and swerved hard, and avoided a high-speed collision. The car responded perfectly, and I maintained control.
On many other occasions I avoided fender benders and bumps with superior braking and handling. I have never once had an accident (or a speeding ticket).
My Volvo was a very safe, reliable vehicle. I hated to get rid of it earlier this year.
