Marriott has a gift for the dog that deserves the very best
The folks at Lexington’s Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa spotted a trend and jumped right on it.
“I think we are the first ones to do this in Lexington,” says J. Malia Reid, the spa operator.
Reid noticed that more Marriott guests were traveling with their dogs so she had an idea: Why not provide massages for travel-weary dogs just like the spa does for travel-weary people?
Why not, indeed.
So Marriott guests can now call the spa and schedule “a 25-minute, in-room personalized canine massage (that) costs only $60 plus (20 percent) service charge,” according to the press release.
That’s in addition to the $100 sanitation fee that each dog owner pays to bring their pets to the resort.
The same massage therapists who work on people at the spa will come to the guest’s room and massage the pooch, but the guest has to be present.
“Each massage ends with a dog specific spa gift,” the release says.
“The Lexington spa treatments are tailored to older dogs with arthritic conditions, those who are travel frequently and suffer from compromised exercise routines, or just those who, like their owners, deserve the very best.”
Okay, you say you bring your cat, rat and iguana on car trips. Can they get massaged, too?
Definitely not, Reid says. Massage therapists are certified to work on people and dogs, but other types of animals require special training.
This could be pet discrimination. Call your legislator and let’s get that law changed. Give your cat, rat and iguana the gift of equal rights to be poked, prodded and pressed!
