The World Wide Web becomes the World Wide WEG

It’s 2009 and you’re in a country halfway around the world.

You want an update on the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games so you get your laptop, go to the Website of the 2010 Radio Show and listen to “the unofficial podcast” about the Games.

The show, which originates in Lexington, is a collection of news reports from various media that can be heard in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Australia, says Glenn Hebert, the host and creator of the show.

The podcast typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes and is updated every Monday.

Three more countries will be added by the end of 2008 and “the goal is to have all 60 countries who are attending the Games to have the show by the middle of next year,” Hebert says.

His company, the Horse Radio Network, produces and distributes the podcast through 10 Websites. The plan is to add 15 sites by January.

Horse Radio sells advertisements on those Websites to pay its bills, Hebert says.

The network also distributes The Stable Scoop Radio Show — “all the horse news, interviews and talk you could want” — which usually lasts about an hour and is updated on Fridays.

Eight more shows about horses are under development, Hebert says.
