Retirement is a four-letter word to Nancy Larkin

The next time your alarm clock goes off and you feel like you can’t face another work day, think of Nancy Larkin.

The Glasgow resident is 83 years old and still working as a Holter heart monitor and pacemaker technician for Cardiology Associates of Southern Kentucky. She also runs a pacemaker clinic.

Larkin received her medical certification in 1945 “and hasn’t stopped since,” says Experience Works, a national nonprofit group that provides training and employment services for mature workers.

She isn’t intimidated by modern technology, changing medical procedures and new terminology, Experience Works says. She keeps up to date by listening to others, by reading and by attending classes.

“Work keeps your mind active,” Larkin says. “I have no desire to live out my life in a nursing home doing nothing.”

With that attitude, this lady is going to live forever.

CLEARLY MANY PEOPLE ARE THEIR BEST REMAINING IM THE WORKFORCE FOR MANY MANY REASONS. YET FOR OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD A GENIUINE OPPRTUNITY TO FULFILL THEIR AMBITIONS AND HAVE DEVELOPED INDIVIDUAL AREAS OF PASSIONATE INTEREST DESERVE THEIR PPPORTUNITY TO RETIRE FROM THEIR LIFELONG CAREER AND FOR THEMSELVES PURSUE THESE INDIVIDUAL INTERESTS.
I SUPPOSE MOST DO NOT HAVE THESE SPECIAL INTERESTS THAT WOULD PROVIDE WHAT THEY NEED IN RETIREMENT. I KNOW MOST PEOPLE THAT I TALK WITH ABOUT RETIREMENT ARE VERY SKEPTICAL SINCE THEY DO NOT WHAT THEY WOULD DO WITH THEMSELVES IF THEY RETIREI THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD TO START A NLOG AND LET OTHERS EXPRESS THEMSELVES ABOUT RETIREMENT AND WHAT THEY FEEL. ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES OF ECONOMIC DISTRESS AND ALSO THE FACT THAT THERE ARE SO MANY BABY BOOMERS READY FOR RETIREMENT!
    MAYBE I SHOULD!
    THANKS,
    JIM
